About Me

Cute Photo of Erica Woolley

Hello! My name is Erica Woolley. I'm a highly motivated aspiring game designer with hands on experience designing games and working with teams. I am a recent graduate from University of California: Santa Cruz where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science: Game Design. During my time at UCSC, I studied theories and philosophies of game design, and gained hands on experience in using and creating game engines, prototyping, level design and story writing.

As a game designer, I strive to create games that are fun and innovative. Since graduation I have worked on various projects of my own. While still in very early stages of development, I can provide design documents and other information upon request.

I am seeking a job where I can fully utilize my strengths as a designer and create games that people, including myself, want to play. My strengths and skills are primarily in creative design, level design, problem solving and working creatively with a team. I strongly believe that the best games are the culmination of ideas from many sources. As shown on my resume and portfolio, I have a demonstrated ability to work with a team to develop my ideas, as well as those of my teammates, to create something that is better than the "sum of its parts".

Z-Ray

Z-Ray is a first person horror puzzle game designed on the PS3 using the Move. The player navigates through various puzzles to re-contain monsters that escaped in a lab accident. The primary mechanics of this game are freeze and chase. The Z-Ray freezes the monsters in place but also alerts them to your position (which they otherwise do not know). Once released from the freezing beam, the monsters will charge towards the player who in turn has to dodge out of the way.

I designed and created this game with a team of six students throughout a single school year at UCSC as part of their Game Design major. I was intimately involved in the design, prototyping, development, and playtesting of this game.

The Adventures of Leuk

The Adventures of Leuk is a schmup (Shoot'em up) starring a white blood cell named Leuk whose job is to travel through the bloodstream killing all the harmful organisms floating through the body. This game was built in XNA and Visual Studio over the course of a month by a team of three game design students. It was designed around the Imagine Cup 2010 specifications (hosted by Microsoft).

This was my first crack at designing and programming a real game with a team. It is very basic, but a great learning experience.

Ciren

Ciren is an interactive fiction depicting a woman who wakes up in a dungeon and has no recollection of who she is or how she got there. The goal early on is to find a way to escape and find out why you are there. There are many different endings which are determined by the choices made during play.

This was my first attempt at interactive fiction. This story was written and programmed in less than a week, but I found it to be an exceptionally fun and interesting experience.
